The local scanner runs the same engines on your hardware and the file
never leaves it. Hosted scanning does one thing it cannot: scripts
(.js, .vbs, .wsf) go through a
sandbox that emulates them and reports the URLs they would fetch, the
commands they would run and the files they would write. The binary reads
those statically. Its string deobfuscation and macro analysis are
deliberate subsets too.
So: if a file cannot leave your network, run it locally and lose nothing but that depth. If it can, and it is an obfuscated script, the API sees more. The full comparison is in the docs.

Frequently asked questions
Can I mix plan tiers across products?
Yes. Contact, Strand, and Surface are billed independently, so you can be on any tier for each. Subscribing to two products saves 10% across both; subscribing to all three saves 15% across every subscription.
How does the Surface monthly scan limit work?
Each file or payload scan counts as one request against your monthly scan allowance (including cache hits). Limits reset each billing cycle. Need more? Upgrade your plan or contact us for volume pricing.
What happens when I hit a limit?
You'll see a clear warning in the dashboard before you hit a limit. If you exceed it, new operations are paused (not lost) until you upgrade or the next billing cycle. No data is ever deleted because of a plan limit.
Can I downgrade or cancel?
Yes, anytime. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period. There are no cancellation fees or lock-in contracts.
What happens to my history if I downgrade?
Your new plan's history window applies going forward: messages, runs, and scans older than that window are removed on the next cleanup cycle. Export anything you want to keep before downgrading. Usage limits never delete data; only the history window does.
Is billing monthly or annual?
Monthly by default. Annual billing with a discount is coming soon; contact us if you'd like to prepay now.
